Snapchat 2

I am not reviewing Snapchat, but I think the concept and idea behind developing the app is quite worthy in todays times, if I may say so. With all the recent controversies surrounding Snapchat, it is quite evident that mischief makers wont spare meddling with anything.

Snapchat was created so that people could share a moment with their friends without having to worry that the pictures may get republished on Facebook. The pictures sent through the app self-destruct within seconds, which is what makes the app so interesting and popular with kids. It adds a more personal connection where you’ve created and sent this one picture (or selfie) to only this one particular friend (or friends) implying “hey, we’ve captured this moment and we’re letting you in on it…and look at those crazy elephant ears i’v drawn around our face’s.” I think it’s a fun way to engage in visual conversation with friends by sharing such a fleeting moment. No wonder, the company is among Forbes 12 most disruptive names in business 2013.

Disruptive innovation, a term of art coined by Clayton Christensen, describes a process by which a product or service takes root initially in simple applications at the bottom of a market and then relentlessly moves up market, eventually displacing established competitors.
